Reserves Win

West Ham's reserves got back on the winning trail with a 3-0 victory at Filbert Street against Leicester on Wednesday evening.

Phil Lumsden made his first start for the second string and Roger Cross says: "That was good to see, while Anton Ferdinand made his second start, as did Terry Khan - at this time of the season, this is when they get their chance, as you keep your first team squad together.

"You like to test them out a little bit, and so far so good.

"We did well against a young Leicester side and, though there have been harder games, they applied themselves very well - it was not a classic but there were moments that were good."

Omer Riza scored the first goal and 'won' a penalty but Roger says he thinks he will be leaving in the summer:

"He possibly will be, but he scored a very good goal, staying calm when Titi Camara put him through and slotting it through very clinically," he says.

"I said to him after the game he has been in that position many times this season but he has been too uptight and missed, but this time he slotted it away lovely.

"I was pleased for him because he is a player that makes a lot of runs and gets into good positions but just needs to be more composed with his finishing.

"He got the penalty as well. He might have scored having gone clean through - the fellow was tugging away at him and stopped him getting a clean shot."

Shaun Byrne got the second, and Roger adds: "I think Shaun has only started nine or 10 times this year because of injuries, but he worked very hard and scored a very good goal.

"It was a terrific Billy Mehmet shot that rebounded off the goalkeeper, but he came in and side footed it home. Shaun works his socks off and he is a great team player."

Laurent Courtois grabbed the third goal from the spot, and Roger says: "Laurent has been a good player for us all season in terms of his training and reserve games. He has a wonderful attitude and is a smashing lad, but unfortunately we have Trevor Sinclair playing in his position so it is always going to be tricky for him."

Team: Forde, Khan (Mehmet 70), Lumsden, Johnson, Iriekpen, Potts, Ferdinand, Byrne, Riza, Camara, Courtois. Subs unused: Ward, Jackson, Eastwood, Ritchie.
