Scott Minto says that he is not convinced that his rival for the
left back spot, Nigel Winterburn, is going to retire this season as
he has intimated.
The pair share a fierce but friendly rivalry now that Scott is fully fit after his injury problems of last season, and he is ready to step in if Nigel's form wavers.
Nigel says that if he does have a succession of poor games he will discuss his situation with Glenn and consider bringing his career to a close, but Scott remains sure that Nigel will continue playing consistently.
"You don't know what is going to happen, he might change his mind," he insists.
"He has done extremely well to play Premiership football at his age, and to play with quality.
"You can't predict the future, or you can soon you can get egg on your face.
"To be honest, hopefully I will be in the first team quite soon.
"If you go to the top clubs you expect competition and if you don't want that you don't go to them.
"I have had it all my career.
"But after what happened last season I am just glad to be training."
And, looking at West Ham's overall plight, he says:
"Against Leeds we were the better side - and Derby as well.
"And Michael Owen was the difference against Liverpool.
"We deserve a win and it will take just one to get us up the table."
