West Ham secretary Peter Barnes says the club accepts UEFA's
decision to postpone West Ham's fixture with Aston Villa.
The game, due to be played on Wednesday 19th September, has been postponed indefinitely as Aston Villa's UEFA cup match, which was scheduled to be played on 13th September, was postponed - in common with other European games - because of the atrocities in America this week.
Their new date is 20th September, meaning that the league clash has to take a back seat.
Although it does mean a certain amount of disruption for the Hammers, Peter says:
"We understand and appreciate the position in the light of yesterday's tragic events."
With international fixtures looming, an already rescheduled home game with Chelsea on the horizon, and, for Villa at least, a Worthington Cup tie upcoming, Peter does admit the match is some way off.
"November would be the earliest possible date for us to play the game," he says.
