Glenn Roeder has denied that he is looking at a swap deal with
Newcastle involving Trevor Sinclair and several of their players.
Reports have variously suggested that Gary Speed, Rob Lee, Warren Barton, Nikos Dabizas, and Nolberto Solano could be offered to tempt Glenn into parting with Trevor.
But Glenn insists:
"I haven't spoken to Bobby about any swap deal involving Trevor Sinclair or any of his players.
"We're not looking at that one at the moment - and we won't be looking at it at all.
"There's not a lot more to say on that one.
"It is well known that Sunderland and Newcastle really admire Trevor Sinclair, and I'm sure there are a lot of other Premiership clubs and managers that also admire him.
"But no one has offered the cash valuation that we value him at, and that is the key: no one has come in with a bid for the sort of money we are looking for."
As for the notion of a player exchange, he says:
"I think swap deals are very hard to make happen because quite often if there was a player you liked, that club doesn't want to let him go, and obviously you don't want to let the player that you have got go unless it suits you.
"Swap deals don't occur very often now, they are very rare; I can't remember the last major one.
"Cash is the important thing because you can then go off and reinvest the money you have got on players that you definitely want."
With Rob Lee one of the players mentioned - a player himself who has asked for a transfer, and is a West Ham fan - Glenn says simply:
"I don't want to be commenting on players at other clubs; Rob is at Newcastle where he is having a magnificent season."
Glenn praises Trevor for his behaviour since asking for a transfer and says:
"I can't speak highly enough of Trevor; in the last couple of weeks he has handled his own situation with great maturity.
"He has been very honest that he was unsettled and put his transfer request in writing.
"He also understands that by his own endeavours and performances he is a very, very valuable player.
"All the credit has got to go to Trevor Sinclair for making himself the player that he is now, one admired by a great number of people.
"He is training well and playing with great desire and so much energy; like a lot of the players on Sunday he put in a five star performance, and I'm really delighted with him.
"I'm not putting him under pressure every day trying to get him to withdraw his transfer request because I don't think that would help the situation.
"We are just getting on with our everyday lives and he is working his socks off in training and matches.
"He knows the whole club wants him to stay, from the chairman to the supporters and everyone.
"We respect his decision but we know ultimately if someone comes in with a cash deal for the sort of money we are looking at, we would have to look at it seriously.
"But one would assume it would only be one of the really big clubs that would have that sort of money."
