Glenn Roeder admits that he is surprised by the comments of Paolo
Di Canio's agent suggesting that Paolo is looking for a
contract extension.
"I would only repeat what Paul Aldridge has said," admits Glenn.
"We were surprised by the story appearing in the newspaper and the timing of it.
"As a club we need to take stock and decide what we need to do next.
"As I understand it a new contract was signed in the summer, and I had no inclination that Paolo was looking for a new one."
Looking ahead to the game at Portman Road this weekend, he adds:
"Ipswich had a great season last year and proved it was no fluke because they fully deserved their place in the UEFA Cup.
"Paul Goddard knows what the mentality of the club is like and what it is all about under George Burley, who has done a fantastic job.
"They will pull no punches on Saturday; they will be fighting and scrapping, and we have to meet that head on.
"They are very dangerous from set plays, and they are probably a little bit wounded at the moment because of some of their results, and this is a big test for us.
"Of course we really do need to start picking up points on our travels."
Glenn says that Ipswich's example proves you don't have to be big to be beautiful, and adds:
"It just shows you what can be achieved if you can get the team playing consistently well and the players are up for it.
"And George has bought amazingly well in the transfer market."
