Glenn Roeder will not be pursuing his interest in Croatian Robert
Jarni, who is currently in dispute with his Spanish club Las
Palmas.
While understandably not wanting to reveal his transfer hand, he does reveal that he has other players in mind as he looks to strengthen his playing staff.
"All I'd like to say is that we have decided not to take up the option of having a look at Jarni.
"To be truthful, we have now targeted one or two other players that we will be looking at instead."
News of his possible interest in the left sided defender originated in Spain - and soon snowballed, in some sources, as being almost a done deal that he would be signing.
"As always it was premature," he says.
"It came from the Las Palmas web site and they were jumping to conclusions.
"Anyway we have decided not to take the option up and are looking at some alternatives."
And Glenn stresses that Nigel Winterburn, currently occupying the left back slot, is integral to his plans, adding:
"We have no doubts or worries that Nigel will be able to get through this season.
"I think Nigel himself, in his own mind, probably feels that this will be his last season at this level.
"He could possibly do what Stuart Pearce did and drop down a level next year if he decides to carry on playing - that is his decision.
"But we have every confidence in Nigel being able to see out this campaign."
