Fredi, who missed three of the first four league games with a hamstring injury, as well as the last two matches, has begun light training again this week and is confident that he will be back to his best soon.
"The hamstring is getting better," he says, "I have spent one week doing nothing, only having treatment, but I started to jog this morning.
"We can never say if it is going to go away or not, the only thing I know is that I hope it is not coming back any more.
"Yes, I did have this problem at the beginning of the season but the only positive thing is that it is not too bad.
"But I will still have to wait at least one week. Saturday is too close and I will not be back for that one.
"It is always frustrating when you do get injured but that's life, you can't do anything about it.
"The only thing you can do is recover as quickly as possible."
The news about strike partner Paolo Di Canio, who also missed the Tottenham game with a hamstring problem, is better however, and Fredi says: "I think Paolo will play this weekend because his injury is not as bad as mine - I think he will be okay."
Fredi will take extra care not to suffer a recurrence of the problem and adds: "All I can do is strengthen it and stretch it a lot and maybe it won't happen again, but one never knows."
Fredi cannot wait to return to making the sort of contribution to the side that has seen him score five goals in eight games so far - indeed he has scored in all of the Hammers' four wins this season - and he concludes: "We are in the wrong part of the table but we have to believe again because sometimes we can win three or four games but then we are not consistent, so we have to improve.
"I hope it is going to be okay this weekend because we need a victory and after that perhaps it will be easier."
