"I haven't played regularly for about a year and a half and I need a bit of time to get my full fitness back," he explains.
"But the only way to do that is to play games and you need five, six, seven, or eight Premiership games, especially after the length of time I have been out.
"Saturday was the first time I have played two matches on the spin for a year and a half, so I need to keep getting those games in."
And his verdict on the defeat by Spurs?
"I thought we played really well in the first half," he says. "There weren't many chances from either side but they managed to get a goal and we tried perhaps a bit too hard to chase the game, playing with our bodies and not our minds.
"Then they found a lot of space and we weren't as solid as we had been in the first half.
"As for the Charlton game, I would have liked to have played the full 90 minutes, but I enjoyed it very much.
"The bit I did play in I really enjoyed and it must have been a great game to watch."
Scott refuses to use the injuries of key players as an excuse on Saturday, and says: "There were some good players not playing but there were some good players that came in for them.
"I am just gutted that we lost; we want keep a clean sheet in every game but David was unlucky. After making a great save it hit the post and fell to Ferdinand for him to score."
After two home defeats on the spin, Scott insists that anyone can beat anyone in the top flight this season, and adds: "It just shows the strength of the Premiership. We know we can go away and win but obviously teams can come to us and win because it is such a strong league."
