"We felt that when Cologne showed an interest in taking him on loan it was the right thing to allow him to do. He plays for Cameroon in all their games and he needs to be playing first team football, which I can't guarantee him," says Glenn.
"We hope he does very well for them; I found him a decent man to work with, he is a likeable fellow and always has a smile on his face.
"In the earlier games this season did very well for us but we felt it was only fair to let him go to Cologne as someone like him deserves first team football.
"They have an option to buy him at the end of the season if he does well for them - and I hope he does.
"The players were off on Wednesday and I haven't had the opportunity to speak to him but I understand he is quite happy to go and looking forward to the new challenge of playing in the Bundesliga, which is a very hard league."
Now Glenn is looking acquire players on loan, and he adds: "I'm still looking to bring in a couple of players and now Rigo is off the wage bill it gives us that possibility.
"I really want to bring in two loan players that can go straight into the first team and I am working on that.
"I don't want squad fillers; there is no point bringing someone in if I am not confident about them playing in the first team on a regular basis.
"Loan deals are becoming more common; some of the big clubs around Europe have such big squads they can allow experienced players out on loan and that is the type of player that can help us.
"I have one or two players in mind but you can never do it in one or two days when agents get involved. However, I would really like to have one or two loan players in before we go to Sunderland."
As for the injury situation, Glenn adds: "Hopefully Fredi won't be out for longer than two weeks and Nigel might be a similar sort of time; we'll have to wait and see.
"It was terrific to get Steve Lomas and Jermain Defoe on the bench and then put them into the game where they had an influence on Monday, and it was good to get Joe through 90 minutes of a reserve game on Tuesday."
David James could make his long-awaited debut for West Ham now he is considered fully fit, and Glenn adds: "We do have two options now. David hasn't had a lot to do in any of the four reserve games he has played and I'd have liked him to have had more work, but at some stage he has got to go back into the first team situation.
"He is a top class goalkeeper with big ambitions to play in the World Cup next summer, though Shaka has done very well at times this season."
Glenn will come face to face with his erstwhile mentor Glenn Hoddle at the weekend, and he adds: "Glenn gave me an opportunity to work with the England squad for two and a half years which included France '98.
"They were the best players in the country and it was a wonderful experience, though such a huge disappointment to lose against Argentina in that fashion when we could have gone through.
"Glenn has now got his team playing in the manner you would expect a Glenn Hoddle side to play; they were very good against Arsenal last week and if anyone deserved to win it was them.
"But the atmosphere will be white hot and hopefully it will spur us on."
