Cole Plays Again

Joe Cole says he wants to hand Glenn Roeder a selection dilemma ahead of Saturday's game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Joe, who faces Leicester reserves on Tuesday night at Upton Park, appeared as a 63rd minute substitute against Charlton on Monday, alongside Steve Lomas.

Unlike Steve, though, Joe will face another test 24 hours later for the second string, and he says: "I am looking forward to playing 90 minutes in the reserves now to help get my fitness back.

"It was the first time I have played this year without any pain and that means a lot to me.

"It is just about getting full fitness now; I was 'blowing' in the Charlton game but that is to be expected and I just tried to keep it simple.

"Even though I played at the start of the season it was difficult because my foot was aching every time I kicked the ball, so I was just delighted not to have that feeling.

"I was gasping for air at times, but that is only to be expected, and I am doing everything possible - like eating the right foods - to get fully fit and hopefully put in some great performances."

Whether he can force his way into the starting line up for Tottenham, however, remains to be seen, but he says: "I will just do my best and hopefully give the gaffer a headache, but obviously it is Glenn's decision."

As for the 4-4 draw at the Valley, he says: "They must love us on Sky because every time they come we put on a little show, but it was bad defending as a whole.

"We have to take the positives out of the game, though, and going forward we were good.

"We were disappointed at the end, but to get a draw away at any Premiership club these days is a good result.

"Everyone is beating everyone, though having gone 4-3 ahead I suppose we are more disappointed than happy.

"But we have got to take the positives and pick ourselves up for Saturday."

The team to face Leicester City's reserves this evening is: James, Charles, McCann, Cole, Cleaver, Potts, Newton, Moncur, Garcia, Riza, Courtois. Subs: Ferrante, B.McMahon, Britton, Ferdinand, Lumsden, Eastwood, Allen.
