Karadas On Trial

Young Norwegian Azar Karadas, on trial at Upton Park from Brann Bergen, has revealed that his striking days are over.

It has been reported that the 20-year-old can play as a centre forward or centre half, but he insists: "I am just a defender now; when I went to Liverpool on trial I was a striker, but that is out."

As well as training with the Reds last season, he also had some sessions with Leeds United, but neither club followed up their interest at that time.

"You would have to ask their managers why," he says, "but on those occasions I went straight from vacation to training, which is not so easy.

"I hadn't trained for two weeks at the time, though Raggy Soma managed to do that here and get a contract!"

Indeed, he has spoken to Norwegian compatriot Raggy, a known admirer of Azar's talents, about West Ham, and he adds: "He only had nice words to say about the club, but it is too early to say if they will take me; I have just been here for four days and my trial should last 14.

"I like English football; I know about all the players and they are very good."
