Hayden Foxe is delighted that he played his part in a great week
for West Ham.
Glenn Roeder pointed out that he and Scott Minto were under a certain amount of pressure at Portman Road, coming as they did into a side that had won the last two games without them.
But Hayden, like Scott, handled it well, and he says:
"Scott is experienced and was relaxed; everyone defended well, we got men behind the ball, the midfielders tucked in and defended, as did Paolo and Fredi.
"There were times when they got a lot of possession but when they got into the final third they were going nowhere.
"It was a terrific win and put a lot of critics back in their seats after the last two away performances.
"It was really good, not just for the players, but Glenn and the whole club, and it just shows what we can do at home we can do away as well."
The scoreline might not have told the whole story, but Hayden says:
"We will take the three points; 3-1 was more of a fair result, or even 2-1, but a victory is a victory.
"The fans were terrific the whole game, and there was a totally different approach from all the boys from the previous two away matches.
"I don't know what it was, but we had had a good week and it gave the boys a lot of confidence; we were a yard quicker in some places, and apart from our playing ability our work rate was really high as well.
"It was really rewarding and good for everyone and we have to continue that in the Fulham
game; we have got to take it week by week and not look too far ahead."
Hayden was disappointed to have been left out of the last Australia squad but he knows gaining a place in West Ham's first team can help him win it back.
"I have got to look at cementing my spot in the team now," he says, "and keeping it.
"Hopefully the boys qualify for the World Cup and I will go with them."
As for the weekend action, he adds:
"Fulham play good football and it will be a really tough game but if we are disciplined and go into it with the same attitude we should do well.
"Everyone is familiar with all of their players, and we know they like to get the ball down and play football, but if we are highly motivated we should take the three points.
"But it is a surprise where they are considering the way they play."
