Glenn Roeder is confident that he will be able to add a fresh face
or two to his playing staff during international fortnight.
Various names have been mentioned in connection with the club this week, but Glenn says:
"It is all speculation but we have got one or two irons in the fire as regards possible signings for the rest of the season.
"Nothing is happening before the Fulham game, but before we play Charlton in a couple of weeks' time we will hopefully have one, maybe two players in the squad."
One of those might be a goalkeeper, and Glenn adds:
"We are looking at the possibility of bringing in a third goalkeeper but haven't done anything definite yet, which means David will be on the bench against Fulham.
"I think we just need to loan one until the end of the season.
"Steve is in plaster for eight weeks and you never know how that will heal afterwards, and we certainly won't be rushing Craig back.
"We will do whatever he wants us to do to make sure he makes a full recovery, and football is the last thing we will be talking to him about.
"But it was great to see Craig at Portman road on Sunday."
Talking of the decision to put David on the bench last week, he says:
"We had no intentions of bringing David back into the fold on Sunday but with Steven Bywater fracturing a bone in his hand we had to ask the question; he was very positive and confident that if he had to go on he would be able to do the job.
"But we were desperate that wouldn't happen because it would have been quite unfair for him to have to perform for the first team without any match practice after such a nasty injury.
"He volunteered willingly to sit on the bench, though, and it was great to see him do 90 minutes in the reserves in just the sort of game he needed for his first one back.
"But he will need a couple more, perhaps even three reserve games to get fully fit.
"And Shaka is doing very well, having made a couple of stunning saves against Chelsea and a save from Reuser's free kick on Sunday that was nothing short of world class."
