Bidding For History

Fancy getting your hands on a piece of West Ham United history? Well now you can, because, via the official website, the club are conducting an auction that will allow Hammers fans everywhere to bid for items of memorabilia at the Boleyn Ground.

Our Premiership clash against Southampton at Upton Park on Saturday is not only the final home match of the season, but also the last game to be played in front of the main West Stand.

Built by the Cearns family, the West Stand was first unveiled on August 29, 1925 and reckoned to be one of the finest in the country, providing seating for 5,000 fans in the upper tier and giving shelter to 12,000 more on the terraces below.

The south-west corner was rebuilt in the 1950s after being bombed during the Second World War and a long-awaited extension to that section was added in 1965, while later on the lower tier was made all-seater.

By clicking here, you can purchase a seat from the West Stand before it is knocked down after this weekend's match, but as from Friday, May 4, Hammers fans will also be able to bid for particular items taken from every area of the stand.

Maybe you would like to get your hands on Harry Redknapp's seat in the home team dug-out, find a use for the bath plug from the home team dressing-room, or have the West Ham United crest from the tunnel displayed in your own home.

In total, 72 lots will be made available in the auction, which begins on Friday. The sale will last for four weeks, with 18 different lots on display each week. More information on the rules and terms of the auction will be available once the auction begins.

There is also a chance for one lucky bidder to win a fantastic prize, courtesy of London City Airport.

West Ham United are extremely pleased to announce they have formed a partnership with London City Airport and to kick off their association, the Airport have very kindly donated two Return Flight Tickets to Jersey. (Valid until September 1, 2001)

Any person to make a bid in the auction will automatically be entered into a draw to win the two tickets. For more information on flights and trips to Jersey, Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man and many European destinations, visit the Airport's website at: www.londoncityairport.com
