Cole: I'm Fine

Joe Cole assures fans worried about him limping off after just 15 minutes of the first pre-season game of the campaign that he will be back soon.

And the view has been endorsed by boss Glenn Roeder and club doctor Ges Steinbergs.

Says Joe, who was replaced by Grant McCann in the 23rd minute of our 7-0 win over Bishop's Stortford on Friday night: "It was just a precaution; I took a little whack and got a shock, but although I will miss a couple of sessions I will be alright."

Ges adds: "He will be OK, as will Toddy who has had six stitches, and Scott Minto who has an anterior right thigh problem."

Glenn Roeder says: "I was happy with the run out: it served its purpose.

"Joe came off as a precaution and it was the right thing to do.

"We approached the game in the right manner, shifted the ball quickly, and made lots of chances.

"The tempo was good and we got the goals in the back of the net."

Although Sky TV was at the game, they did not capture footage of Jermain Defoe missing an open goal from a couple of yards out in the last minute.

Although he was offside anyway, he still tore his shirt off down the tunnel, so disappointed was he in a performance that could have seen him net a second half hat-trick.

Says Joe: "I told him those were his misses for the season; everyone was a bit rusty.

"But you couldn't speak to him after the game really!

"All credit to the opposition; there was no silly kicking."
