Q: What Was Your Response To The News That Glenn Roeder Had Signed England International David James From Aston Villa For £3.5million?

Your replies:

Andy Papps, Romford
David James is a great signing, although most Hammers fans were expecting to see the midfield strengthened first. He is an England international and will bring more presence behind the back line. Glenn now needs to offload the likes of Charles, Kitson, Dailly, Minto and Camara whilst adding a couple of new players to give the squad more balance.

Gary St.Hilaire, London
Great signing by Glenn. Shaka has gone of the boil a bit and needs this type of competition to bring him back to his best. All we need now is a couple of young quality defenders and if we can get the services of Josep Guardiola, we'll be a hard team to beat next season.

Grant, Woodford
A good signing from Glenn, proving he has what it takes to bring good players to West Ham. Shaka will have to raise his game to keep his first team spot and so will David if he wants to be first choice keeper. With a serious worry about our defensive situation it is good to know that we have two strong keepers who will each want to do their best in keeping a first team place.

Shane O'Connor, Grays
Keepers come in three groups - very good, good and bad. David James is good, he isn't special, but it's not bad. Roeder needs to strengthen the squad pretty quick and get them all known to each other before the season starts before we find ourselves in another mess like last season. Tihinen, Guardiola and Laurent Robert (who Harry was after) would give us an excellent chance for a good season. A good line up of 3-5-2 could be Pearce, Foxe, Tihinen in defence, Carrick, Cole, Guardiola, Sinclair and Robert in midfield, with Di Canio and Kanoute up front - with Defoe on the bench ready to take his chance when it comes. That's not a bad team comparing to what we have at the moment - if we get a few injuries we are ruined.

Colin Charmer, Croydon
No question about it, David James was a good signing, but Shaka Hislop hasn't been performing badly enough to warrant a replacement. What we need is a couple more decent strikers or at least one person that can guarantee us 16 goals per season. Take Kanoute from the side and where do you look for a consistent goalscorer. A striker has to be a priority, so come on Glenn, strike us a good deal.

Brad Emerson, Barking
On a good day he is a good keeper but he does make mistakes a lot of the time. He is full of promise and I hope he can become the 1st choice England goalkeeper. I just hope he is not going to be our only big signing this summer.

Marc Smith, Grays
A few years ago David James was error prone but in the last few years he has worked on his game and deservedly earned an England Squad position. I was a little excited when I heard we had signed him because it's a fact that we don't make a habit of signing England internationals with their best years still to come. I feel a little for Shaka but I do think when you are trying to shake a defence up, you do need to start with the goalie and James is the man to sort them out. I will be very interested to see who Roeder signs next although I did chuckle when we were linked to Guardiola. We are being linked daily with players which is always nice to read but I hope we follow it up, especially with Tihinen.
