Newly-promoted Fulham's formal bid for last season's leading goalscorer Frederic Kanoute has been turned down.
As reported at the end of last week, West Ham United MD Paul Aldridge and manager Glenn Roeder were both on holiday when news broke of Fulham's interest in the French Under-21 international, who himself added fuel to the fire by publicly declaring his wish to be reunited with his former Lyon coach, Jean Tigana, at Craven Cottage next season.
Aldridge confirmed: 'Yes, it's true, Fulham have made an official approach for Fredi but their offer has been declined.'
Aldridge would not reveal the size of the fee Fulham offered for the highly rated 23-year-old, who cost Hammers £3.6 million just over a year ago.
Aston Villa have also maintained their interest in the future of Kanoute.
Aldridge adds: 'Villa have been asked to be kept informed of any possible developments but I really want to draw a line under the Fredi issue now.
'We chatted to him and his agent again last week and we're looking forward to seeing Fredi back for the start of pre-season training next week.'
