David James says that the Hammers' performance at Liverpool on
Saturday confirmed that he had made the right move in joining West
Ham.
"I personally was delighted with what I saw and it reinforced my decision to move to the club," says the former Liverpool keeper.
"I'd like to think the West Ham fans went home from Liverpool with some encouragement.
"We could have quite easily buckled under and got beaten quite comprehensively but it took a great goal to beat us.
"We played at Liverpool with what, it has to be said, was an unfancied side, and performed well.
"They do say the test of a decent side is when you have got the injuries, and the performance was good.
"Liverpool were in training two weeks before us so maybe that little bit of fitness gave them the edge.
"It was a very good performance by the lads and if it hadn't been for Mr. Owen, who knows?
"He has finished both goals very well and that is the difference between the top sides and the chasing pack, that they can have two opportunities like that and score two goals."
David, who will be watching the Leeds game from the directors' box in the new Dr. Martens stand, wasn't so impressed with referee Jeff Winter, though, and adds:
"Some of the decisions were questionable and I think if you keep knocking one side with decisions it can knock your spirits."
David is acutely aware of the clamour for new faces to be brought in alongside him and says he is sure that Glenn will get the reinforcements he requires soon, adding:
"Glenn said to me from day one that he was not going to waste his money, but get the players he wanted rather than the ones that just happen to be available.
"I am his summer signing and I'm not playing but if hopefully he can sort the ones out he is looking at it will only strengthen us.
"I think we had a good preseason and I was all geared up to playing - I'll just have to be patient."
* There will be a minute's silence before the game in memory of Les Sealey, who died of a heart attack last Sunday at the age of 43.
