Michael Carrick reckons West Ham can have a good start to the
season - even if Glenn Roeder doesn't manage to sign any new
players by the start of the new campaign.
As the Hammers chief continues to scour Europe for fresh talent, Michael says that if the squad can be reasonably injury free the points will start piling up.
"When everyone is fit we have got a really good team," he insists.
"But obviously with a smaller squad if we get a few injuries it weakens you a little bit.
"When the best players are out on the pitch we can do well."
Glenn is anxious to get Joe Cole fit again, and Michael says of his friend:
"I think Joe is not too far off and he should get a run out on Monday.
"I was pleased to come off injury free myself at Notts. County after another 45 minutes.
"It is getting closer and closer now and I can't wait for it to start."
Michael also says that trialist Aliou Cisse, who played alongside him at Meadow Lane, could be a useful addition to the squad.
"I think he is a centre half to be honest, and to be fair he didn't do badly," he says.
"He put some tackles in; but it is always hard for trialists coming in to establish themselves.
"Obviously there is a language barrier as well, and you don't know how he plays.
"But that is the way it has got to be and you just have to get on with it."
