Former defender Tim Breacker reckons this season could see Joe Cole
and Michael Carrick become real superstars.
If, as Tim expects, England qualify for the World cup in Korea and Japan, the competition could be the making of them, he insists.
"You never know what can happen," he says.
"The England manager might select them for the internationals this season, or they could become prominent nearer the summer.
"But it all happens on qualification for the World cup and if they play in that then they really will get noticed all over."
Tim is hoping that the pair will take on more responsibility this season now that Frank Lampard, and Rio Ferdinand before him, have left the club.
"Obviously West Ham have lost Frank and Rio and they are impossible to replace," he says.
"But if they keep hold of the young ones still coming through they can have a good season.
"I probably played the odd reserve game with Joe, though I don't really remember.
"As for Glenn Roeder, I've met him briefly - and good luck to him.
"Everyone was surprised that Harry left, but Glenn will give his all for West Ham.
"But I wouldn't want his job at all, with all the pressure it brings - no way!"
Tim is now running the reserve team at QPR - though he admits there aren't too many players to run!
"We haven't got any players at all," he says, "so I think they are going to wheel me out!
"But seriously, I had a bad ankle injury, and you have to think about your health.
"I could possibly play the odd game but I would always be in pain."
Tim admits that he doesn't really keep in touch with his erstwhile team mates, adding:
"I have finished my sports science degree and that kept me occupied.
"But running the reserves at QPR and trying to bring a few young lads through from the U19s is all encompassing work.
"There is even less time and you realise how easy it is as a player."
