Łukasz Fabiański in action at Crystal Pałace

Fabiański: We just have to focus on our work

Łukasz Fabiański says the hard work will continue as West Ham United seek the points required to secure their Premier League status.

The Hammers goalkeeper was frustrated to leave Crystal Palace with nothing on Saturday, as his side kept plugging away yet fell to a narrow 4-3 defeat.

While the Irons were far from their best at Selhurst Park, Fabiański believed the team’s spirit kept them in the hunt.

Ultimately a point or three eluded them in south London, but the No1 is sure that if they can continue to show that character, while mixing it with sharper work in both penalty areas over the remainder of the campaign, the team will achieve their goals.

“It’s always difficult when you lose games, especially when we’re in the situation that we find ourselves in,” he admitted.

“So, obviously we’re not pleased with the result on Saturday because we were hoping to put in a good performance that would get us something from the game, but we lost that one.

“We have to continue to work and focus on the rest of the games, to get as many points as we can to keep us up.”

Next up for the Hammers is a trip to league leaders Manchester City on Wednesday.

In recent weeks the Hammers have taken a point from second placed Arsenal, and pushed Liverpool all the way in a narrow 2-1 defeat, so Fabiański believes that his team can make life difficult for the Citizens at Etihad Stadium.

“In the Premier League it’s never going to be easy,” he continued. “I just hope we move forward from Saturday and prepare ourselves well for the Manchester City game.

“Obviously they are a top team, they are at the top of the league and are playing very well. For us it will be a massive challenge but we have to make sure we have to prepare ourselves well for it.

“Before the kick-off you always have a chance. We have to make sure we do our work, stick to our principles, work hard on the pitch [and we will see what happens].”
