Angelo Ogbonna believes West Ham United's actions will speak louder than words
  • Italy defender was speaking after 5-1 Premier League defeat by Arsenal on Saturday
  • No21 has urged teammates to rediscover the performance level shown in EFL Cup win over Chelsea
  • Angelo Ogbonna could not hide his disappointment following the home defeat against Arsenal on Saturday but is convinced his team-mates will show the character to move away from the bottom three.

The Italy defender spoke honestly after the loss to Arsene Wenger’s team, admitting that the Hammers need to quickly get back to the levels they displayed in their previous London derby at London Stadium, the 2-1 EFL Cup win over Chelsea in October.

Next up is another tough encounter, against Liverpool next Sunday at Anfield, where the Hammers secured a magnificent 3-0 victory last season.

Ogbonna and his team-mates now have a full week to prepare for the clash against Jurgen Klopp’s men, and the 28-year-old is confident that the response will be a positive one.

“Of course I believe we can turn this around,” he said. “I can keep talking about it but we have to show it on the pitch. We have crucial games coming up now. The table is so tight and we know that we need victories.

“Liverpool will not be easy, but we have to be confident. It is one game and we have to fight, work hard and show character to get back to winning ways.

“We are so disappointed because it is not the performance we wanted to give. We have a lot of injuries and we were not at 100%, but it was a derby and we needed to be better.

“We are so sad about the result, because we knew the importance of the game and it is disappointing. But we have to look forward to the next game.

“We know that we can find a good performance. We played so well against Chelsea, we were solid, we ran for each other, and we must find that again.”
