Soucek versus Spain

Internationals: Souček and Coufal beaten by Spain

Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal both played the full 90 minutes for Czech Republic in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Spain.

Just 72 hours after their last UEFA Nations League outing, a 2-0 loss in Portugal, The West Ham United duo and their Czech Republic teammates suffered the same result in Malaga against the Spanish, who netted in either half.

Despite Spain's dominance in possession, it as the Czechs who had the better of the opening chances, only for Carlos Soler to open the scoring on 24 minutes with a clinical finish.

Alex Král, who spent the 2021-22 season on loan with West Ham United, had the visiting side's best opportunity in Sunday's fixture when he forced a smart, diving save from Unai Simón in the second half, before Pablo Sarabia tapped in a clever cross from Ferran Torres to ensure Spain's unbeaten streak continues.

Defeat leaves the Czechs in third in Group A2 with four points from four games played, and brings an end to their summer schedule of international football.
