Following the recent government announcement that all grassroots football is suspended between Thursday 5 November 2020 and Wednesday 2 December 2020. This means that all West Ham United Foundation activities which deliver grassroots sport opportunities such as: Premier League Kicks, Development Centres and Performance Academy programmes, will not be running during this period.
Furthermore, external bookers for the Beckton Hub will not be able to attend the site during this period, and therefore, the Beckton Hub will partially close until 2 December.
Outreach that will continue to be delivered in-person includes school and university sessions as well as one-to-one youth work and mentoring initiatives, and there will also be some programmes delivered virtually.
Joseph Lyons, Foundation CEO, said: “It was always important to us that we get as many of our participants back having fun and enjoying their sessions as quickly as we could. This has in part been possible because participants and parents alike have worked with us and kept to our COVID-19 policies and processes, and for that we are thankful.
"During the last lockdown we developed a strong framework of virtual engagement and so where possible we will use this to continue to deliver the programmes which cannot run in-person across this next lockdown period.
“We are very grateful to all of the essential workers, particularly the NHS staff, for the vital work during this time, and our thoughts are with anyone who has been directly impacted by the coronavirus. It’s really important that we stay united so we can overcome this virus together, and so we want to remind everyone of the important role they play in following the government’s guidance in order to reduce its spread.”
