Women's Loan Watch | Ziu plays first league minutes in over a year, Dowsett helps Watford keep unbeaten run going

Five West Ham United women’s team loanees were in action for their respective temporary clubs over the weekend.

Midfielder Jess Ziu played her first competitive league minutes since May 2024, as she came on as a second-half substitute in Bristol City’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle United in the Barclays Women’s Super League 2 on Sunday.

After she played her first competitive minutes of the season in the Subway® Women's League Cup in September, the Republic of Ireland international was introduced in the 68th minute with the score at 1-1 after Rio Hardy cancelled out Oona Sevenius’ opener.

And Ziu, alongside defender Camila Sáez, who played all of the contest, was soon celebrating as Hardy notched her second of the afternoon with 14 minutes to play. However, former Hammer Lois Joel equalised from 25 yards with only a minute of normal time remaining to ensure it finished honours even at Gateshead International Stadium.

The Robins turn their attention to Group E of the Women's League Cup and the visit of Barclays Women’s Super League outfit Aston Villa on Sunday.

Keira Flannery’s Charlton Athletic still lead the way at the summit of the WSL 2 standings, but they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to tenth-place Sheffield United on Sunday afternoon.

Our midfielder again played all 90 minutes at The Valley, as her side came from a goal down to secure a point, with Jodie Hutton netting the equaliser on the hour mark.

The Addicks are also in cup action this coming weekend, as they host Portsmouth in Group C, with both teams looking to record their first win in the competition this season.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Rebekah Dowsett helped Watford stretch their unbeaten run to ten games in all competitions with a 3-1 success at home to Hashtag United on Sunday.

The shot-stopper played all 90 minutes in Hertfordshire as her side climbed to the top of the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division standings, maintaining their unbeaten start to the fresh term in the process.

All of the goals came in the first half, with Anne Meiwald, Coral Haines and Maddie Perry getting on the scoresheet for the Hornets, who host Plymouth Argyle in the first round of the Women’s National League Cup on Sunday.

Dowsett’s Hornets teammate Soraya Walsh was an unused substitute in the clash against the Tags.
