During a busy period of international football, just one of our young Hammers out on loan was in action over the weekend...
Gideon Kodua’s Luton Town extended their unbeaten run to five games under new head coach Jack Wilshere as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Rotherham United in EFL League One.
The Hatters had been on a four-game winning streak but welcomed a stubborn Rotherham side to Kenilworth Road, who set up resolutely and were determined not to be broken down.
Themselves unbeaten in the league since September, the Millers could only manage 31 per cent possession and two attempts on goal, but crucially reduced their hosts to very few opportunities as well.
Looking to add more attacking firepower in the second half, Wilshere withdrew 18-year-old midfielder Jake Richards, who had scored and assisted in their last game at leaders Stockport County, for winger Kodua.
Despite the introduction of further attacking players in Zack Nelson and Millenic Alli, the Hatters just couldn’t find the breakthrough and were forced to settle for a point.
The point lifts Luton up a place in the table, to eighth, three points off Bolton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Stevenage in the play-off places.
Kodua and his teammates are next in action away at 13th-place Barnsley on Saturday 22 November.
