Internationals | Szemik's Poland lose to Sweden in Women's Euro 2025 clash

Kinga Szemik’s Poland suffered a 3-0 loss against Sweden in Group C of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 on Tuesday night.

The defeat, following their loss to Germany in the first round of group-stage fixtures, means Poland - competing in their first-ever major tournament - have been knocked out of the competition, held in Switzerland.

The West Ham United women’s team No1 made four saves at Swissporarena, Lucerne, but was unable to stop Sweden claiming all three points.

Blågult broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark through Arsenal’s Stina Blackstenius’ close-range header and their second, which came shortly after the break, was another headed effort - this time from No9 Kosovare Asllani.

The theme of the match continued into the 77th minute, as Lina Hurtig nodded home Jonna Andersson’s corner to wrap up the tie.

Poland will still look to pick up three points in their final group-stage fixture when they face Denmark, who are also yet to get off the mark, at Swissporarena on Saturday 12 July (kick-off 8pm BST).
