Preview - Norwich City

All the need-to-know information ahead of Tuesday's game at Norwich City

Background

It’s a trip to East Anglia for West Ham United on Tuesday as they head to Carrow Road to take on newly promoted Norwich City.

The Canaries, back in the Barclays Premier League after a one-year absence, welcome West Ham to their home in a celebration of 80 years at Carrow Road. West Ham were Norwich’s first opponents there back in 1935.

This match will mark another step-up in standard for the Hammers, who have taken on Sky Bet League One sides Southend United and Peterborough United, and Championship outfit Charlton Athletic in their friendlies to date.

Norwich, meanwhile, have just returned from a tour of Austria and Germany, where they lost 1-0 to Israeli side Maccabi Haifa and defeated Augsburg, of Germany, 2-1.

Alex Neil’s side bounced back to the Barclays Premier League at the first attempt in May, beating Middlesbrough in the Play-Off final at Wembley.

The history

West Ham last travelled to Norwich in the 2013/14 season, where they took the lead through Ravel Morrison but ended up losing the game 3-1 thanks to a second half fightback from the hosts.

The Hammers have played Norwich in 50 competitive games previously, winning 19 and losing 16.

Our last victory at Norwich came in 2006, when Hayden Mullins and Bobby Zamora scored in a 2-1 FA Cup third round victory.

That inaugural game at Carrow Road was played on 31 August 1935, and Norwich prevailed in a real thriller, winning by the odd goal in seven.

Team news

West Ham United

Slaven Bilic will travel to Norfolk with a strong squad on Tuesday as the Hammers continue to get game time into their legs ahead of the start of the Barclays Premier League campaign on 9 August.

Carl Jenkinson could be involved for the first time since arriving on a second loan deal from Arsenal, while new signings Dimitri Payet and Angelo Ogbonna could also make the trip.

Norwich City

Former Hammer Gary O’Neil triumphed in the Championship Play-Off final for a third time in his career when he helped the Canaries to promotion last term. He had previously tasted that same success with both West Ham and Queens Park Rangers.

So far this summer, they have added West Bromwich Albion pair Graham Dorrans and Youssouf Mulumbu to their squad.
