Emerson scores v Brentford

Emerson strike shortlisted for Premier League Goal of the Month award

Emerson’s unstoppable strike in Monday’s 4-2 victory over Brentford has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Budweiser Goal of the Month award for February.

The Italian stepped up, controlled Frank Onyeka’s headed clearance and laced a sensational 25-yard shot into the top left-hand corner of the Bees’ net, giving goalkeeper Mark Flekken no chance whatsoever.

The UEFA Europa Conference League winner’s goal capped a superb attacking display from the Hammers, who scored their first victory of 2024 thanks in the main to Jarrod Bowen’s first career hat-trick.

However, Emerson’s goal was the one nominated for the Premier League’s monthly award, and is one of eight shortlisted in total.

The seven other goals in the running were scored by Arsenal’s Declan Rice against the Irons, Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew and Jefferson Lerma, João Pedro of Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Liverpool’s Darwin Núñez and Richarlison of Tottenham Hotspur.

West Ham supporters can vote for Emerson’s wondergoal by clicking here.

Polling closes at 12noon GMT on Monday 4 March, with the winner being announced at 1pm GMT on Friday 8 March.
