West Ham United honoured those who bravely laid down their lives for us with a series of poignant Remembrance Day activities ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture with Burnley.
Before the match, the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal held bucket collections and will be selling poppies around London Stadium.
A large poppy covered the centre-circle throughout the warm-ups while members of the Armed Forces and representatives from Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, will provide a Guard of Honour in front of the Billy Bonds Stand and West Stand.
Blesma veteran Matty Weston, who lost three limbs in a bomb blast whilst serving in Afghanistan, spoke to his fellow West Ham supporters about the importance of marking Remembrance Day and the work done by the charity and Royal British Legion in supporting veterans and their loved ones.
The Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums, based in Romford, entertained the crowd with a selection of war-time tunes before members of the Armed Forces provided Guards of Honour along the touchline and around the centre circle.
West Ham legend Sir Trevor Brooking, Burnley Chairman Alan Case and Lance Corporal Roberts of the Royal Signals laid wreaths before bugler Osman Dervish sounded The Last Post.
When the match kicked-off, the Hammers wore shirts emblazoned with a poppy which will be auctioned post-match to raise funds for charity online here at the Official West Ham Store.
