West Ham United at 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations | All You Need To Know

A summer full of international tournaments continues as the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations gets underway on Saturday 5 July.

The tournament was meant to take place last summer, but was postponed due to a clash with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

This year’s Africa Cup of Nations, the 15th edition of the tournament, will be held in Morocco and will conclude on Saturday 26 July at Olympic Stadium, in Rabat. The quarter-finals will take place across 18-19 July ahead of the semi-finals, which will be played on Tuesday 22 July.

The 12 teams competing in the finals have been split equally into three groups. The top two from each group, plus the two best third-place teams will progress to the final eight of the competition.

As well as the capital, the other cities hosting the tournament are Casablanca, Mohammédia, Oujda and Berkane.

Although Nigeria have been by far the dominant side over the years, lifting the trophy on nine occasions, the reigning champions are South Africa, who won the tournament for the first time in 2022, which was also held in Morocco.

Who has been called up?

West Ham United women’s team left-back Inès Belloumou is the only Hammer at this summer’s tournament, having been called up to Algeria’s squad.

Midway through 2024/25, the former France U23 player, who enjoyed successful loan spells at Lazio and Malmö FF throughout last season, switched her international allegiance and will now embark on her first international tournament with Algeria.

Algeria - competing in their sixth Africa Cup of Nations - booked their spot at the tournament in December 2023, defeating Burundi 6-1 across two legs in the second round of qualifying after sealing a 3-2 aggregate win over Uganda in the first.

Belloumou’s side have been drawn in Group B alongside Botswana, Nigeria and Tunisia. Their campaign will get underway at Stade Père Jégo, Casablanca, against Botswana (Sunday 6 July, kick-off 8pm BST) before they face Tunisia at the same venue (Thursday 10 July, 5pm BST). In their final Group B encounter, Algeria will take on Nigeria at Stade Larbi Zaouli (Sunday 13 July, 8pm BST).
