Riko Ueki pens new contract at West Ham

West Ham United is delighted to announce striker Riko Ueki has signed a one-year contract extension at the Club.

The No9 has made 55 appearances for the Hammers since her arrival from Tokyo Verdy Beleza in the summer of 2023 and has featured in every game across all competitions under manager Rehanne Skinner. An ever-present figure in Claret and Blue, the Japan international has scored 13 goals and contributed seven assists.

The 26-year-old is pleased to have extended her stay until the summer of 2027, and is looking forward to making more memories in east London.

“I’m happy to continue my journey with West Ham,” said Ueki. “It’s unbelievable to reflect on my time at the Club over the last couple of years - it’s been so special. I can’t believe how well everything has gone for me and how much I’ve enjoyed it.

“I love being here. London is my second home and West Ham is my second family. Everyone is so kind to me and my teammates have helped me a lot.

“Rehanne has also taught me so much and as a player, I have improved a lot under her. I feel proud to play for Rehanne and for this Club.

“Our fans are so important to me and for us as a team too. Every game they help us, both home and away. Our home record last season was great and I can’t wait for our first home game of season on Friday. I want to celebrate this news with the fans and play well to help the team get a positive result against Arsenal.”

Bringing an end to a seven-year stay at Tokyo Verdy Beleza, Ueki first stepped through the doors at Chadwell Heath training ground two years ago, embarking on a journey at a new Club, in a new league and a new country. She excelled in her first season, scoring six goals in all competitions on her way to being crowned Young Hammer of the Year by supporters.

Last season, she headed home a late equaliser at home to Liverpool to earn Skinner’s side a crucial point against Liverpool in September, before going on to score against Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa in a record-breaking campaign for the Irons in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Having used the forward in every game during her tenure, Skinner is delighted to see Ueki put pen to paper on a new deal.

“We’re delighted that Riko has extended her contract with the Club,” she said. “Riko is one of the most underrated forwards in the WSL. The qualities that she brings to this team have been clear for everyone to see over the last two seasons. The timing of her movement; her ability to manipulate defenders; her game understanding in and out of possession, to name a few.

“Not only is Riko a top player but her commitment, energy and enthusiasm is a great example for those around her. She is a pleasure to work with and I look forward to seeing her go from strength to strength in a West Ham shirt this season.”

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Riko on her new contract and wish her every success as she continues her journey in Claret and Blue.
