My Football Firsts | Emerson

First game you watched live as a supporter?

It was Santos against Sociedade Esportiva Matonense, I think. I don't know how old I was at this game.

I went to the stadium with my dad and my brother. It was so special because my dad and my brother love football, so I always watched the games from the TV.

I never thought about going to the stadium, and I remember this day a lot. My dad woke me and my brother up and said that we were going to the stadium, and I was very excited and couldn’t wait.

First football hero?

I will say R9 (Ronaldo).

There’s no doubt about this for me because I remember the 2002 FIFA World Cup. It was unbelievable.

Ronaldo

First football boots?

They were Nike Mercurial Vapors.

I bought the first ones because of Ronaldo. He played with them at the World Cup in 2002, and when I started to play football, I always asked my parents for the same boots as Ronaldo.

First kit?

It would have been a Santos kit. I think it was in 2000/01, when I was around six years old.

Emerson Santos

First mentor in football?

I have two - my dad and my brother. They always liked football, and I always watched football with them and played with them.

They’ve definitely helped me become the person and player I am today.

First professional game?

It was with Santos against Paulista Futebol Clube in April 2011, when I was 16 years old. I came off the bench in the second half, and we won 3-0.

It was incredible because at this time I had the opportunity to play with some unbelievable players, like Neymar and Elano, and all my family were in the stadium for the game, so it was very nice.

First professional goal?

It was against Club Athletico Paranaense. It was in September 2013, and I had just turned 19.

We lost this game 2-1, but I came on in the second half and scored the goal.

It wasn’t my best strike, but a goal is a goal! It was a nice moment for me and for my family.

First red card?

My first red card was for AS Roma in UEFA Champions League qualifying against FC Porto, in August 2016.

I tried to win the ball, and I just got it all wrong. There was no VAR (Video Assistant Referee), but I knew it was a bad tackle and that I deserved to receive a red card.
