Morgan | I was really happy to show what I could do

New West Ham United women’s team signing Ffion Morgan hailed the special group she has joined following her side’s 1-0 victory over Sparta Prague on Sunday.

The Wales international came on as a first-half substitute in the pre-season friendly at Great Strahov Stadium, just after Riko Ueki headed home what proved to be the winning goal in the capital of the Czech Republic.

Morgan showed her quality in the game, using her pace to break in behind and she was immediately involved at the start of the second period.

The 25-year-old burst into the penalty area, beating a defender on her way to producing an inviting cut-back, but Aneta Pochmanová intervened before the ball reached either Soraya Walsh or Shekeira Martinez, who queued up inside the six-yard box waiting to tap home.

That was just a sign of what’s to come from Morgan, and the attacker was pleased with her team’s display in humid conditions.

“It was a good test for us,” she said. “They're a Champions League team, they're raring to go, so it was a good physical test in the heat as well. We held our own and came out with a win, so we’re really happy.

“It was a quick change, but [Rehanne said to] just go on, do what I can, and then we came off at half-time and it was more structured then. I was really happy to get on and show what I could do.”

Morgan signed on 30 July and has integrated herself well into Rehanne Skinner’s side. She stated she has settled in quickly, which will only benefit her performances on the pitch.

“I'm just trying to get connections with the girls, whether that's in training or on the field when we're playing against other teams. I'm just getting used to linking up with them,” she said. “It was fun!”

“They've all spent extra time getting to know me and me, so it’s a really special group with lovely, lovely girls.

“Especially as a new person coming in, I've already settled in quickly and that's thanks to the girls making me feel welcome - that's on the pitch and off the pitch. They're great and I’m sure that will filter onto the pitch as well.”
