Manchester City v West Ham United women’s team
Barclays Women's Super League, Joie Stadium, Saturday 1 November 2025, 12noon GMT
After three weeks away, West Ham United women’s team are back in Barclays Women’s Super League action on Saturday with a trip to the Joie Stadium to face Manchester City.
A record number of Hammers were away with their countries during the October international break, and for those players it is a quick turnaround, with only a few days to prepare before making the journey up north.
Those that remained in east London worked hard with manager Rehanne Skinner and her coaching staff in preparation for the second block of fixtures of the season, as they target a positive result and performance against the Citizens.
Last time the two sides met, Manuela Paví scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn us a 1-1 draw at Chigwell Construction Stadium in March, and the Claret and Blue Army will be vying for similar scenes of celebration this weekend.

Opposition...
Manchester City were last in action in the Subway® Women's League Cup in what was an enthralling encounter away at Newcastle United on Sunday 19 October.
The Citizens looked like they were heading towards three points in the north east as they had a 3-1 advantage heading into the final ten minutes, but Newcastle stunned their higher-league opponents and salvaged a 3-3 draw after 90 minutes. Manchester City went on to claim an extra point in Group A, winning 7-6 in the penalty shootout.
This came after they secured a late 2-1 success at Liverpool in the WSL. It was Aoba Fujino who came up with the goods in the 86th minute at Anfield, completing a comeback after Cornelia Kapocs gave the Reds a second-half lead.
That was the Citizens’ fifth successive league victory of the season - showing a positive response to their opening-day defeat away at reigning champions Chelsea in September. So, bar the loss against Sonia Bompastor’s side, it’s been a positive start to life for Andrée Jeglertz in Manchester, who took charge of the Citizens in the summer.
He inherited a squad that experienced a season of change last term, as they parted ways with then head coach Gareth Taylor just five days before their Subway® Women’s League Cup final with Chelsea in March before finishing fourth in the WSL.
It was interim boss Nick Cushing who took charge in the dugout at Pride Park Stadium against the Blues in the first showpiece of the season. He saw his side fall behind early on, but Fujino levelled proceedings in the 66th minute. However, a Yui Hasegawa own-goal 13 minutes from time handed Chelsea the trophy.
Swede Jeglertz took over the reins at City after two years as Denmark manager, whom he took charge of at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025. Denmark finished bottom of Group C without a point to their name after games against Sweden, Germany and Poland.
A defender in his playing days, 53-year-old Jeglertz began his managerial career at Gimonäs CK’s men’s side as a player-coach in 2003 and remained in Sweden with Umeå IK and Linköping FC before becoming manager of the Finland women’s national team in 2010.
He was in charge of Helmarit for six years before spells at Umeå FC and Linköpings FC.
Also on target against Liverpool before the international break was Iman Beney, who was one of six signings City made over the summer. The Sky Blues also recruited goalkeeper Eartha Cumings, defenders Laura Wienroither and Jade Rose, and midfielders Grace Clinton and Sydney Lohmann.
Previous Meetings…
As mentioned, Paví scored a dramatic equaliser against City in March, cancelling out Bunny Shaw’s 80th-minute opener with a brilliant run and finish after a neat flick from Riko Ueki.
That was our first point against the Citizens since October 2021, when a goal in either half from Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Hasegawa earned us a 2-0 victory.
However, Manchester City have won 14 of the 16 meetings.
