Internationals | Spain defeat knocks Ademiluyi’s England U19s out of UEFA Women's U19 Championship

Princess Ademiluyi’s England U19s’ UEFA Women's U19 Championship campaign came to an end on Saturday evening following a 1-0 defeat against holders Spain.

Every team in Group B headed into the final round of fixtures tied on three points, with the Young Lionesses at the foot of the table on goal difference.

West Ham United women’s team forward Ademiluyi was handed her third successive start as England knew a victory against Spain - who have won the last three editions of the competition - would send them through to the semi-finals of the tournament.

But unfortunately, Lauren Smith’s side could not find a breakthrough as Spain dominated possession and the opportunities in the encounter, and ultimately booked their spot in the final four thanks to Cristina Librán’s goal at the death.

The Spain captain’s strike in the 96th minute meant her side qualified top of the group, with Portugal also progressing to the semi-finals courtesy of a 2-0 win over the Netherlands. The two teams will be joined by France and Italy, who finished in the top two in Group A.

Ademiluyi, who was taken off for Lauryn Thompson on 80 minutes in Stalowa Wola, Poland, can hold her head high at the conclusion of her first major tournament with the Young Lionesses after she played a starring role in England’s victory against the Netherlands.
