Emerson’s incredible free-kick strike against Arsenal has been voted the West Ham United 2024/25 Lyca Mobile Goal of the Season.
Amidst a chaotic finish to the first half of the Hammers’ 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Gunners in November 2024, our No33 stepped up to help spearhead his team’s comeback attempt with a stunning set-piece from around 20 yards out, reducing the deficit to 4-2 five minutes before the break.
The left-footed, curled effort - that nestled into the net off the underside of the crossbar - marked Emerson's fourth of five goals for the Hammers, on his 95th appearance in Claret and Blue, and as well as winning the Club’s Goal of the Month gong, was nominated for the equivalent Premier League prize as well.
No stranger to a wondergoal, the 30-year-old’s previous strike - against Brentford in February 2024 - was also nominated for the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award, while his most recent effort - a fine headed equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in January 2025 - finished second in the running for the Irons’ Goal of the Month accolade.
Emerson’s Arsenal goal was voted Goal of the Season by supporters, finishing ahead of three Jarrod Bowen strikes, against Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal in August, December and February respectively, Danny Ings’ dramatic equaliser at Fulham in September and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s first for the Club at Newcastle United in November.
The Italy international, who was presented with his award by Club legend Marlon Harewood following the narrow 2-1 defeat by Nottingham Forest in West Ham’s final home clash of the campaign, said: “I’d say the Arsenal goal is my favourite of all the goals I’ve scored in my career.
“It was the first free-kick I’ve scored, and it was a nice goal. I don’t score a lot of goals, but that one went to plan and hopefully I can do it again soon in the future.”
