West Ham United women’s team midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has been selected as part of Iceland’s squad for their UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 campaign.
The 33-year-old, who featured 22 times across all competitions for the Irons last term, has over 100 caps for her country, but was away from international action for nearly two years after giving birth to her second child, Andreas, in February 2024.
Putting on the Iceland colours was an honour the Hammer was unsure she would get to experience again, but Brynjarsdóttir made her return to the international stage in February 2025 against Switzerland in a UEFA Women’s Nations League clash. And now, Brynjarsdóttir will go one step further, and travel to Switzerland to compete in this summer’s Euros.
Iceland, placed in Group A, will be involved in the opening game of the tournament when they face Finland (Wednesday 2 July, kick-off 5pm BST) at Stockhorn Arena in Thun, ahead of clashes against Switzerland (Sunday 6 July, 8pm BST) at Wankdorf Stadium, Bern, and then Norway (Thursday 10 July, 8pm BST), also to be played at Stockhorn Arena.
Þorsteinn Halldórsson’s side booked their spot in the tournament via the UEFA Women’s European qualifiers, finishing second in Group A4, with 2022 Women’s Euro finalists Germany pipping them to top spot in the standings.
Our No10 has previously represented Iceland at three UEFA Women’s European Championship finals, scoring her first goal for her country in a major tournament at the 2013 edition of the competition at just 21 years old, against the Netherlands, in Sweden.
She also netted on seven occasions to help Iceland qualify for the Euros in 2017 and five times to propel them to the 2022 tournament, scoring in the finals that year against France.
Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Dagný on her call-up and wish her
every success at this summer’s Euros.
