West Ham United Academy of Football youngsters attended a special DT38 charity screening of the documentary about the life and career of the late Dylan Tombides.
Tombides passed away in 2014, three years after initially being diagnosed with testicular cancer, having been tipped as a future star for Club and country.
The documentary tells the striker’s story from growing up in Western Australia and the Far East, to joining West Ham, graduating from the Academy and making his first-team debut while undergoing treatment for cancer.
Following his passing, DT38 was set up by Tombides’ mother Tracy and has spent the last decade raising awareness and educating boys and young men about testicular cancer through Dylan’s story.
Tracy invited Sporting Director and DT38 Patron Mark Noble - who generously match-funded the amount raised on the night - and Academy Director and DT38 Ambassador Kenny Brown to bring over 100 players U8s to U18s from the Academy to the Lumiere Cinema in Romford.
Later in the evening, a second showing was attended by DT38 Ambassador Tony Cottee, Alan Curbishley and Stuart Slater and fellow former Hammers Paul Konchesky, Geoff Pike, Brian Dear and Paul Brush, alongside DT38 Ambassadors Mark Little, Terry Hayes, James Fuller, Paul Bridger and members of the public.
Tracy Tombides said: “Huge thanks to Mark for his support and generosity and to Kenny and everyone at the West Ham Academy for making this event matter so much.
“Because of the Club’s commitment to the screening, we were able to educate so many young men and boys about Dylan’s journey and about testicular cancer.
“The more we talk about testicular cancer in an accessible and engaging way, such as through this film, the more likely people will start to check themselves going forward.
“This is all about education, awareness and trying to prevent men and boys going through the types of treatment my son Dylan had to experience.
“I’m also hugely grateful to all the former Hammers players who joined us for the public screening and to everyone who bought a ticket and attended the event.
“And, of course to Ian Morgan, Lumiere Cinema and to all helpers. It makes such a difference.”
The event was organised by Morgan’s company, E13 Events. He became a Patron of DT38 in August 2025.
The documentary, Premier League Stories: Dylan Tombides, was co-produced by DT38 Patron David Davutovic and first shown on Sky Sports and TNT Sports in 2024. It is not currently available to view on streaming platforms in the UK.
