Battrum enjoyed a superb 2022/23 season with the U18s, making 26 appearances in all competitions as the young Hammers won the U18 Premier League South and the FA Youth Cup.
The versatile youngster scored his first goal of the season in dramatic fashion, drilling the ball into the bottom corner in extra time as the Irons beat Ipswich Town 4-2 in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final. Battrum also made his Premier League 2 debut in March 2023, coming on as a substitute for Mark Robson’s U21s in a 5-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
His impressive campaign earned him his first professional contract with the Club signed ahead of the 2023/24 season, during which he featured six times for the U21s and 15 times for the U18s, captaining the squad on five occasions.
During the 2024/25 season, Battrum signed a two-and-a-half year contract extension and turned out 19 times for the U21s scoring the third goal in their Premier League 2 Round of 16 win over Sunderland.
The following season, Battrum made a further 31 appearances for the U21s, including all of their senior cup games as our young Hammers finished runners-up in the National League Cup and the round of 16 in the EFL Trophy - the only Academy side to reach the knockout stages of both competitions.
The versatile midfielder then finished the campaign on loan at Braintree Town where he accrued a further eight National League appearances, scoring and assisting in a 3-2 defeat in front of 10,000 spectators at Southend United.
