Herrick named in England U17s squad for 2023 UEFA Euro Championships

Finlay Herrick has been named in the England U17s squad for the upcoming 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championships.

West Ham United U18s’ shot-stopper Herrick has been named as one of 21 players in head coach Ryan Garry’s squad for the tournament in Hungary, which kicks off this week and runs until early June.

Herrick and his teammates successfully came through two qualifying rounds last October and then in March to seal their place in the Finals, and the young Lions kick-off their campaign against Croatia on Thursday evening.

From there, they face the Netherlands on Sunday 21 May (7pm BST) before their final group match against Switzerland on Wednesday 24 May (2pm BST).

The top two teams from each of the four groups will then progress into the knockout stage for the quarter-finals (Saturday 27 May), before the semi-finals (Tuesday 30 May). The Final takes place in Budapest on Friday 2 June.

This year's U17s European Championships also acts as the European qualifiers for the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup, with five spots at that competition in October available to the four teams who reach the semi-finals. The fifth spot will be determined via a play-off between two of the beaten quarter-finalists.

All of the England U17s’ games at the tournament will be available to watch live in the UK via the BBC Red Button and iPlayer service, and are also being streamed live on UEFA.tv.
