David Martin was appointed U21s Goalkeeper Coach and Head of Academy Goalkeeping in September 2026.

Born in Romford, Martin is the son of former West Ham United and England defender Alvin Martin.

The younger Martin started his career at Wimbledon and MK Dons before joining Liverpool in 2006 at the age of 20. He was loaned to five different clubs including Leicester City, with whom he won the EFL League One title in 2009.

He was capped by England at U17, U19 and U20 levels.

Martin returned to MK Dons in 2010 and spent seven seasons with the club, making over 300 senior appearances and winning promotion to the Championship in 2015.

After two seasons with Millwall, Martin signed for West Ham in 2019 and made a memorable debut in a 1-0 Premier League win at Chelsea in November of the same year.

Martin finished his playing career at Southend United in 2023/24, then commenced his coaching career as assistant first-team goalkeeper coach at Ipswich Town.

In summer 2025, he joined Chelsea as U16-U21 goalkeeper manager before returning to east London and his boyhood club.
