West Ham United head to Hamburg on Tuesday night to face Altona 93 in the latest game of their summer European Tour.

It is four years since the Hammers were last in the same region of Germany, when they took on the city’s Bundesliga representatives, Hamburger SV, in Flensburg.

Sam Allardyce’s men got the better of their hosts on that occasion, triumphing 3-1 thanks to goals from Alou Diarra, James Tomkins and Ravel Morrison. Here we take a look at where the players who started that day are now plying their trade.

Goalkeeper: Stephen Henderson

Age: 29
Current Club: Nottingham Forest

Irish goalkeeper Stephen Henderson spent a couple of years with the Hammers after joining from Portsmouth in 2012.

He played in two League Cup games in the 2012/13 campaign, but never featured in the Premier League and signed for Charlton in 2014 after loan spells at Ipswich Town and Bournemouth.

Half way through last season he moved to Nottingham Forest from the South London club, and has 15 appearances for the Reds to his name.

Right back: Guy Demel

Age: 36
Current Club: Red Star (France)

Paris-born Ivory Coast defender Guy Demel was one of a number of experienced players recruited by Sam Allardyce as part of West Ham United’s post-relegation rebuild.

A Bundesliga title winner with Borussia Dortmund in 2002, Demel made 200 appearances for our opponents on this day Hamburger SV before joining the Hammers, for whom he played 83 times over four seasons.

After a spell in Scotland with Dundee United, the right-back returned to France in summer 2016, splitting last season between Championnat National club Marseille Consolat and Paris-based Ligue 2 outfit Red Star.

Centre back: James Collins

Age: 33
Current Club: West Ham United

Long-serving Hammers defender Ginge was in the second pre-season of his second spell with the Club when they took on Hamburg.

Having returned from Aston Villa the previous summer, he helped Big Sam’s team re-establish themselves in the top flight with the minimum of fuss.

Still a hugely-important member of the West Ham squad, the 51 cap Welsh international played 22 Premier League games last term.

Centre back: James Tomkins

Age: 28
Current Club: Crystal Palace

Tomkins was a long-time defensive partner of James Collins with the Hammers, featuring in over 200 league games for the Club after coming through the Academy ranks.

He remained a Hammer until last summer, when Alan Pardew took him across London to Crystal Palace.

Tomkins later played under Big Sam again at Selhurst Park, playing 24 Premier League games last term as the Eagles secured their top flight safety.

Razvan Rat

Left back: Razvan Rat

Age: 36
Current Club: Rayo Vallecano (Spain)

Romania international defender Razvan Rat came to the Hammers that summer with a good reputation, having captained Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on numerous occasions.

However, he never quite reached those heights in E13, playing 15 Premier League games before moving on to Spanish side Rayo Vallecano.

He is still with the Madrid-based club, although he did spend a year away in Greece with PAOK in 2014/15.

Centre midfield: Alou Diarra

Age: 36
Current Club: Unattached

Alou Diarra was a member of the France squad which finished as FIFA World Cup runners-up in 2006 and also featured in the 2010 edition of the tournament and UEFA Euro 2012.

However, injury blighted his time with the Hammers and he only made six league appearances after signing from Marseille in 2012.

After a loan spell with Rennes, he pitched up at Charlton Athletic in 2015/16, before playing for French Ligue 1 side Nancy last term.

Centre midfield: Mohamed Diame

Age: 30
Current Club: Newcastle United

Diame spent three years with the Hammers, signing soon after the Club were promoted back to the top flight in 2012.

He left the Club in 2014 and has since won promotion from the Championship twice, first with Hull City and then Newcastle United last term.

A 2012 Olympian with Senegal, he also has 31 caps for the senior side to his name.

Centre midfield: Kevin Nolan

Age: 35
Current Club: Notts County (manager)

Kevin Nolan recently celebrated his 35th birthday as manager of League 2 side Notts County – following in Big Sam’s footsteps at Meadow Lane.

Nolan was a successful on-pitch leader at West Ham, scoring an impressive 30 league goals in 141 games before his release in 2015.

A spell as player-manager at Leyton Orient later, he was back in the hotseat with the Magpies who he turned around last term to ward off the threat of relegation to the National League.

Ravel Morrison

Wide attacker: Ravel Morrison

Age: 24
Current Club: Lazio (Italy)

Sam Allardyce took Ravel Morrison from Manchester United in 2012, and after a loan at Birmingham City in his first campaign with the Londoners, he returned to make an impact in this pre-season.

The England U21 international notched in this meeting with Hamburg and scored five goals in 21 appearances in 2013/14, before drifting away from the first team scene.

He was loaned to QPR and Cardiff, and signed for Lazio in the summer of 2015, spending part of last season on loan back at QPR.

Wide attacker: Matt Jarvis

Age: 31
Current Club: Norwich City

Jarvis was the Club’s record signing when he arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 2012.

He supplied the assists for all three goals in ths game went on to spend three years in claret and blue before moving on to newly-promoted Norwich City in September 2015.

His time at Carrow Road to date has been ravaged by injury and he has played only 21 games in the last two seasons.

Modibo Maiga

Striker: Modibo Maiga

Age: 29
Current Club: Al-Ittihad Kalba

Mali striker Modibo Maiga was a 2012 arrival from French side Sochaux, and he was a Hammer for three years, spending time out on loan at QPR and Metz over that period.

Maiga’s most memorable moment was perhaps scoring the winner in a League Cup tie at Tottenham Hotspur in December 2013.

He moved to the Middle East and Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr after leaving West Ham and now played in the UAE for Al-Ittihad Kalba.
