Sinclair - Payet could be even stronger

Trevor Sinclair made over 200 appearances for the Hammers and became a fans favourite during his five-year spell at West Ham United.

Sinclair will never forget being part of one of the most exciting team's in the club's history and playing alongside the likes of Paolo Di Canio, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.

The former England winger is now relishing the chance to see another fans favourite Dimitri Payet showcase his talents in a claret and blue shirt.

Despite the disappointing start to the campaign, Sinclair has no doubts there is enough quality in the squad to turn things around and believes Payet could become an even stronger player this season....

There are a lot of people saying that the new Stadium is not the same as the Boleyn Ground, but for me it is twice as good.

It is needed for the Club to go forward. There is a fantastic atmosphere when the fans get behind the players and they start producing.

Hopefully the Stadium will start growing on some of the fans who have yet to be won over.

I was lucky enough to be part of a great team and we were showmen. We wanted to show off on the pitch and playing with the likes of Paolo Di Canio, Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick – I'm sure we would have all enjoyed playing on this pitch and this platform to showcase your skills.

I am sure the fans will grow to love the Stadium and I just hope the team can do the business.

There is a lot more expectancy on West Ham and a lot of the teams who they come up against will want to play well, so I hope the lads enjoy the Stadium and get West Ham right up the table.

West Ham were not too far away from the top four last season and finished seventh. But they could have easily been in the top six and they got a few injuries at the wrong time.

With the playing staff they have got available they should be looking at another top ten finish.

I look forward to seeing how the players gel together with the likes of Payet, Zaza and Lanzini who I believe has a lot more to show.

Payet got rewarded for his early form last season with a new contract and rightly so because he was the match-winner on a number of occasions.

I was looking at him then, because is it football you are striving for and being as good as you can or is it the finances and rewards.

It is obviously about football because he has since gone onto another level once again and gone to a different platform.

He performed very well at the European Championship Finals during the summer for the host nation.

He is a late developer so he should be fresh mentally. If the fans can show the same love towards him then I think the Club will get even more special things from him.
