West Ham United made Pablo Zabaleta their first signing of summer 2017 when they persuaded him to join from Manchester City on a free transfer.

A fine defender and respected leader, Zabaleta won two Premier League titles and four other trophies during nine outstanding seasons with the Citizens.

Capped more than 50 times by Argentina, the full-back started for his country in their 2014 FIFA World Cup final defeat by Germany in Brazil.

Before West Ham
Born in Buenos Aires, Zabaleta was raised in Arrecifes...He began his career at Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro in 2002 after progressing through their youth ranks, starting as a defensive midfielder before moving to the right hand side...He moved to Europe with Espanyol in 2005 - the same summer he captained Argentina to the FIFA World Youth Championship crown - lifting the Copa del Rey in his first campaign with the Barcelona-based team...He featured in the UEFA Cup final the following year, where Espanyol lost out to fellow Spanish side Sevilla on penalties...He won Olympic Gold and moved to England in 2008 and was a regular as Manchester City embarked upon the most successful spell in their history...He netted in the final day 3-2 victory over QPR which secured the 2010/11 Premier League title, and lifted the trophy for a second time two years later...Having also won the FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield in his time at Etihad Stadium, the Argentina international completed a clean sweep of English domestic honours.
