Shelina Zadorsky came off the bench for Canada as they were beaten on penalties by the United States of America in the semi final of the 2024 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Wednesday evening.
In treacherous playing conditions, Canada had to come back the hard way at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, as they came from behind on two separate occasions. Goals in the 82nd minute from Jordyn Huitema and the seventh minute of added time in the second half of injury time from former Hammer Adriana Leon, from the penalty spot saw them force the game to penalties.
Lindsey Horan, Sophia Smith and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher scored from in the shootout for the US, whilst only Quinn could find the net for Canada, as Leon, Huitema and Jessie Fleming all saw their efforts saved.
The result means that Canada head home, whilst the USA face Brazil in Sunday’s final. Zadorsky will return to east London and prepare for the women's team's next fixture, which is away at Liverpool on Sunday 17 March.
