The West Ham United Foundation and R;pple Suicide Prevention Charity are excited to announce their second five-a-side football tournament, proudly sponsored by Shawbrook Bank and HTB, in support of mental health and suicide prevention.
The tournament will take place on Thursday 18 September at The Foundry, the Foundation’s brand-new £4.7m community hub, with entries for teams now open.
A total of 20 teams made up of 16 men’s (including returning champions LMAC) and four women’s will compete for glory, with all proceeds going to support the vital work of both R;pple and the West Ham United Foundation.
Created by lifelong Hammers fan Alice Hendy MBE in memory of her brother Josh, R;pple is a free browser extension designed to intercept harmful online content and provide immediate support to those in crisis. Since its launch, it has been implemented across all West Ham United staff platforms and continues to expand its life-saving reach.
"We’re absolutely thrilled to be joining forces with the West Ham Foundation once again for our second charity football tournament," said Hendy, CEO and Founder of the R;pple Suicide Prevention Charity.
“Last year’s event was such a fantastic day, and this year we’re even more excited to welcome so many teams who have signed up to take part. This year, we're broadening our reach, welcoming new faces alongside familiar friends and strengthening the vital message that every life matters.
“The enthusiasm and dedication of our teams, sponsors and supporters remind me daily why our work in suicide prevention is so important. Together, we're creating a brighter future for those in need - one match, one conversation and one life at a time. Thank you for continuing to be part of this journey with us."
The West Ham United Foundation reaches over 50,000 people of all ages and abilities each year, responding to need, providing unique opportunities and delivering tailored support across east London, Essex and areas internationally. Its focus on health and wellbeing ensures mental health support is integrated into all aspects of its work.
Speaking about the tournament, West Ham United Foundation CEO Joseph Lyons said: “The Foundation is deeply proud to stand alongside R;pple for a second year, raising awareness and vital support for mental health and suicide prevention.
“As an organisation embedded in its community, we feel strongly about the way in which football can connect in ways other things can’t, break down stigma and ensure people know that help is always available.
“We are pleased to be running the event shortly after World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September and want this to reflect the need for ongoing conversations about wellbeing, so that no-one feels they have to face challenges alone.
“This tournament would not be possible without the commitment of our headline sponsors, Shawbrook Bank and HTB. In particular, we want to thank Shawbrook’s Relationship Director Mark Hedley, whose dedication and support have been instrumental in bringing this event together. We are incredibly grateful for the passion and energy he has invested in making sure this tournament continues to grow and make a real difference. It’s shaping up to be a brilliant day.”
The tournament is also supported by Silver Sponsor, TSA Riley, and Bronze Sponsors, AWH, Kuits, Brickflow and Align Property Finance, whose backing helps ensure the event raises maximum funds and awareness.
With limited availability, sign up now to be part of this special day, helping to make a huge difference to two very important causes.
