West Ham United is delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Kirby as women’s team assistant manager.
Kirby arrives at West Ham following a season as head coach of Barclays Women’s Super League 2 side Bristol City, with the Robins finishing sixth last term.
The newest member of Rehanne Skinner’s coaching staff joined Bristol City from Leicester City, where he spent two seasons as first-team coach, following time with the Foxes men’s academy as U18s assistant coach.
Sport science graduate Kirby has also worked for MK Dons as the club’s football development manager, as well as the lead youth development coach for the Dons’ academy.
As the women’s team begin their pre-season preparations for the 2025/26 WSL campaign, Kirby is ready to get started in his new role in east London.
“I’m delighted to be joining West Ham United,” he said. “When the opportunity came along to work with Rehanne, I felt like it was an easy decision to make.

“The Club has cemented its place in the WSL over the last few years and the upward trajectory that Rehanne is taking the team on is clear for everyone to see.
“I’ve always admired the style in which Rehanne’s teams play and, as a competitor, I embraced the challenge of being in the opposite dugout to her.
“I’m now committed to using my knowledge and experience to help the players improve and move forwards in this new chapter together.”
Skinner is delighted to be adding Kirby to her coaching team, citing his experience in the women’s game as a major factor for his appointment.
“I’m delighted to welcome Steve to the Club,” said the manager. “Steve has a wealth of experience and, having worked in both the WSL and WSL 2 over the last few years, his knowledge of the women’s game will be a real asset to the group.
“His coaching expertise and reputation in the game speaks for itself and I have no doubt that Steve will play a massive role in helping to improve the players, both individually and collectively, moving forwards.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Steve to the Club and wish him every success in his new role.
