Team News | Souček and Earthy to miss Arsenal trip

West Ham United duo Tomáš Souček and George Earthy will miss Saturday’s Premier League trip to Arsenal through suspension and injury respectively.

Czechia international midfielder Souček will complete his three-match ban this weekend, after being sent-off during the home defeat by Tottenham Hotspur last month.

The 30-year-old featured for the Irons’ U21s on Tuesday evening, in our 3-1 Vertu Trophy loss at Reading, and will be itching to add to his 250 Claret and Blue appearances following the upcoming international break.

During his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon, Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo confirmed that Academy of Football graduate Earthy is also out of contention for the clash at the Emirates, and is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Besides the absences of Souček and Earthy this weekend, Nuno explained that the remainder of the squad is available to him for the game against the Gunners.

The Head Coach said: “I had a meeting with the medical department today, and it’s looking like four to six weeks for George, unfortunately.

“Young lads like George are so important for us, because they bring energy, and we hope that he can return to us soon.

“With the exception of George, all the players are available, and it’s important to us that all the players are healthy. It’s going to be a long season, and we need to make the proper decisions and solutions.

“Today we have worked with 22 boys, and tomorrow (Friday) we will make decisions about the team, so we will see.”
