Jarrod Bowen and Aaron Cresswell

Team News: Moyes updates on Bowen and Cresswell ahead of Liverpool

David Moyes has offered an update on Jarrod Bowen and Aaron Cressswell ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Liverpool.

West Ham United face a rapid turnaround as a frantic 2023/24 season begins to take shape. Having beaten FK TSC Bačka Topola in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening, the Hammers will travel to Anfield this weekend for a return to domestic action.

Forward Bowen missed out on Thursday’s European win, with Moyes confirming that the 26-year-old had been unwell, while Cresswell was forced off at half-time at London Stadium.

The manager says both will be checked on over Friday and Saturday ahead of facing Liverpool.

“Jarrod Bowen has had a virus and we’ll need to see how he is for the weekend,” Moyes said. “The others, I think we seem okay.

“Aaron Cresswell had to come off on Thursday night with a bit of a hamstring problem, so we’ll check him out, but apart from that we’re probably about okay.”

With European football now in full swing, and the Carabao Cup third round also set for next Wednesday, manager Moyes and his coaching staff will look to balance the squad’s minutes and workload through a busy campaign.

The boss admitted doing so could be a challenge, but one he was happy to keep in mind with such a talented pool of players at his disposal.

“If anybody was expecting any games to be easier than others, I can tell you it just doesn’t happen,” he added. “All the games in all competitions, you have to win and you have to play well.

“You need to do the right things all the time and we’re now in a Thursday-Sunday fixture situation now, which does change your thoughts a little bit. Maybe you make a few more changes than you would like to because of it, but we got our group off to a great start and that’s what I’m happy about.”
